Recent Reads – February 2014
So I did a bit of reading in February. Most of it was comics and mangas, but I like what I like and I won’t apologize for it. 😀
Anywho. I read through 8 books. Mostly quick reads and I liked them all for the most part.
Furies of Calderon (Codex Alera #1) 3 out of 5 Stars
A decent read with some interesting ideas, but I almost didn’t finish it. I’ll look into the rest of the series eventually, but I’m in no hurry. For a more thorough review go to https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/785717434?book_show_action=false
Blood Lad, Vol. 1 – 5 out of 5 Stars
If you like manga at all then I really think this is a story you might want to look into. It brings in vampires, werewolves, ghost, demons, and pretty much anything and everything, yet it is a story that never takes itself too seriously. It’s funny. It’s got action. It’s really just bloody awesome. Also I love the art style so there’s that too. Read it!
Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Promise, Parts 1, 2, 3
I’m a big fan of the animated series and when I found out there were some graphic novels that follow the series, I really wanted to get my hands on this. Reading it felt like I was watching another episode which really leaves me little to complain about. The story itself wasn’t incredibly brilliant, but it had its moments. You have to remember that this is all supposed to be geared toward children. Children younger than 24 that is.
Star Wars: Legacy, Vol. 1, 2, 3
I won’t try to play it off like I’m some huge fan of Star Wars because I’m not. I enjoy the idea of Jedis and Sith and bounty hunters and all that cool stuff, but I just never really got into the movies. But my brother borrowed these from a friend of his, and I decided to read them through. They were pretty good. It’s getting better, so I definitely want to keep going and see where it goes.
So that’s it. I’m kind of in a bit of reading slump at the moment. You can thank Lie to Me, Psych, and True Detective for that I suppose. Especially Psych… I friggin’ love that show.
