Dresden Files! Book 7 Review

Ta dah, I’m back once more. Sigh. I’m trying people. Truly, I am.

Dead Beat by Jim Butcher 4 out of 5 Stars

Necromancy coming at you in a bundle of awesome. I really enjoyed this one. It’s better than the last. Not crazy better, just better.

Dresden is being blackmailed into doing something, he really doesn’t want to do. I’m not getting into hard details, but we again get this adventure where Dresden meets these new characters and past characters get fleshed out more. I cannot give Butcher enough credit for this. He’s really done a wonderful job of slowly giving you more, but not overwhelming you. This is true of the world, the characters, and the magic. It’s well done.

Anyways, so Dresden is again set to solving a mystery, but with the added complication of being at the mercy of his blackmailer (Among other things!). Then it all comes together for an explosive ending, where shit really does go down. I don’t want to spoil it all because I really did love it. However, I’ll give you this: A zombified Tyrannosaurus Rex comes into play. That’s not code for any kind of sexual innuendo. I mean it. A zombie T-Rex comes out to play and it’s just kind of one of those moments where you realize this whole story doesn’t take itself entirely to seriously and neither should you. And I don’t mean that in a negative way at all. I love that fact. Stories that can do that well are probably some of my favorites.

Anyways, if you enjoy bringing the dead back to life–I mean, who doesn’t. Am I right or am I right?– then you’ll probably dig this addition to the Dresden Files. And as always James Marsters, you be brilliant as always!

Notice: A Failure to Blog

Alas, I’ve come back to you blog. It has been many months I know, but forgive me for my time away. Just know that I have been incredibly busy with…. I don’t know….. everything.

In all seriousness, I am sorry, yet again, for my poor blogging consistency. I’m determined to be better. I know I say this all the time, but this time I mean it. (Sweet, merciful Athena, hold me to my word!)

I do love me some of dat audible

I’ve been reading quite a bit. More than I ever have actually. This has a lot to do with the ability to listen to Audiobooks, while I work, which is freaking awesome! I might be late to this game, but I approve of Audiobooks. Seriously, great way to get some books in while doing other mindless task. (My job consist of mostly boxing board games for shipping, so yay for mindless!) Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind my job at all. Simple, easy, and comes with the benefit of working at the same company as my older brother. In addition to that, I get to bloody listen to books all day long. So yeah, it makes the job great.

So, I’ll eventually get to working on some reviews for many of these books I’ve been reading. Doubtful they’ll be incredibly detailed, but I do want to write down my thoughts on them.

Beyond that, I’ve been doing some work on the second Kyle Demore book. It’s going steady and I’m certainly getting in the zone, but it is slow work. I thought I’d be able to crank it out quicker or, at the very least, just as quick as the first book, but I’m finding that I’ve become much more cautious (I guess that is the best word) as a writer. The best way for me to explain that is, as I craft the story, I’m trying to make sure that everything simply makes sense. And not on my own end. This needs to make sense to the reader. Most of the answers are already in my head, so it’s no secret there, but I have to lay down the foundation for future points of the plot, ya know? So doing all that takes time and I’ve been overthinking this, I’m sure, so that means it is taking even more time.

So basically yeah, I’m working and tugging along. Writing is going and going, so fear not, the story shall continue.

Some fine reading, if you’re in to that kind of thing.

This reminds me! KYLE DEMORE AND THE TIMEKEEPER’S KEY now $0.99. For all of you out there with an extra dollar to thine name. Please feel free to spend it out sweet delicious words from yours truly. Available at*Version*=1&*entries*=0

And if you’ve already read it, then tell your family, friends, neighbors, pets, strangers, enemies…. Anyone really. Tell everyone. If they’ve got that crisp, digital cash then it’s theirs for the taking.

I should mention that there are other stories in the work as well, but these are ‘hush-hush’ and not to be spoken of until they can be given proper attention. You understand, right?

Do look forward to some more work on this blog, though. I’m for serious this time. (For realz…)
